Burkina-Faso: Fight against terrorism/ESRI, this patrol unit that secures roads
The alert system of the armed forces of Burkina Faso is watching over the fight against terrorism. This system neutralized a group of jihadists in Taouremba, in the Sahel region, while planning attacks on the population. According to the Burkinabe News Agency, military vectors struck these terrorists before they acted.Operations continue and all units of the Burkinabe army are involved in this war. One of these units is the ESRI, Road Safety and Response Squadrons.
The role of ESRI is to conquer, ensure the permanent viability of strategic roads, escort convoys, intercept any enemy or dangerous logistics. These squadrons also ensure the watch of the fighting forces during their deployment. They have a duty to destroy all terrorist bases in deployment areas.
This unit was brilliantly illustrated during the resettlement of displaced people in the village of Ouo in the Comoé and the resettlement of the gendarmerie brigade in August 2023.
Also to their credit, the securing of the rehabilitation works of the bridge of Naré, dynamited several times by the jihadists and the reconquest of the Namentenga. Their intervention in operation Laabingol-3 (cleaning in fulfuldé language) was remarkable as well as that of Boulgou. Currently, the rehabilitation works of the Sablogo bridge are under their security.
For information, operation Laabingol-3 started in March 2023, was to control the area between Kongoussi – Djibo and restore the fluidity of traffic between these two cities. It made it possible to supply Bourzanga and the surrounding communities with basic necessities.
