Burkina Faso : Fight against terrorism, General Simporé promises to intensify efforts with the support of AES
During his swearing-in on Tuesday, the new Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of Burkina Faso, Brigadier General Célestin Simporé, expressed his determination to intensify the fight against terrorism with the support of the member countries of the Sahel States Alliance (AES).
“In collaboration with our AES partners, we will strike a decisive blow against terrorism so that our country can regain the peace it once had and move forward in its development for the well-being of our people,” declared the Minister of State.
General Simporé assured that the efforts already undertaken by the Burkinabe army would be intensified to accelerate the return of peace and stability to the country, which has been facing terrorist attacks for nearly ten years. Relying on the recent victories of the fighting forces on the ground, he appeared confident: “We will soon see the end of the tunnel. The light is already visible, and I am sure it will only be a matter of time before terrorism is defeated.”
The Minister praised the collaboration with regional partners, particularly Mali and Niger, within the AES. According to him, this cooperation is a cornerstone in addressing security challenges and restoring Burkina Faso’s sovereignty.
General Simporé also committed to continuing the reforms initiated by his predecessor, General Kassoum Coulibaly, to strengthen the operational capabilities of the armed forces. During the handover ceremony, General Coulibaly expressed his willingness to support his successor while thanking the personnel for their support.
The ceremony, chaired by the Secretary General of the Government, Ousmane Ouattara, brought together notable figures such as the new Minister of Public Service, Mathias Traoré, and senior military officials, underscoring the importance of this transition in the current security context.
