Burkina Faso: Fight against unemployment: The Government directs the youth towards vocational training.

In order to combat unemployment and promote decent jobs for the youth, the Government is embracing a new paradigm in vocational training. The purpose is to enable young people trained in various training centers to find employment as quickly as possible upon completion of their training.

The Burkinabe Government has announced the launch of a program called « Bureaux de compétences et accompagnement” (Competency and Support Offices).

These structures aim to provide local assistance to young people in universities, guiding them towards training and employment opportunities that best match their skills and professional abilities.

The Competency and Support Offices will provide solutions to the employability gap among students.

They will be staffed by employment and training advisors whose tasks will include following up with students after they have completed three preliminary steps: assessing their needs, analyzing the employment market opportunities and describing their desired career paths.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré has implemented an information and guidance system for students regarding employment and job opportunities.

This solution arose from the observation that the number of students increases every year while the available positions in the civil service decrease.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s objective is to increasingly steer the youth towards production sectors such as agriculture, livestock, carpentry, welding, auto mechanics, industrial mechanics, and mining professions.
