Burkina Faso/Fine coal case : The Burkinabe State officially recovers the cargo

The Burkinabe state has officially recovered the fine coal cargo following an agreement reached with the mining company I AM Gold Essakane SA. The mining residues, stored for some time at the dry port of Bobo-Dioulasso, are currently being transported to Ouagadougou by 17 trucks.

This operation aims to enable the processing of approximately 400 tons of fine coal to extract all the gold for the benefit of the Burkinabe state, with a focus on transparency.

The governor of the Hauts-Bassins region, Mariama Konaté/Gnanou, emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency in handling this matter. To this end, a supervisory committee, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Mines, ASCE-LC, the anti-fraud brigade, and civil society organizations, has been established to monitor the process.

The agreement between the parties stipulates that the Burkinabe state will receive a sum of 9 billion CFA francs in addition to the cargo. The processing of fine coal will take place in Ouagadougou, at the mining residue treatment plant inaugurated last January by President Ibrahim Traoré.
