Burkina Faso: Focus on some of President Ibrahim Traoré’s remarkable achievements in record time

Burkina Faso has experienced impressive and evident transformations in all areas since the rise to power of the MPSR led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, far surpassing what his predecessors could achieve in a decade.

Security and Defense

Between 2016 and 2022, Burkina Faso went through a dark period marked by relentless terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of more than 13.000 Burkinabe. Vast areas of the country were inaccessible, making it difficult to supply essential resources and security. It was common for four soldiers to share a single weapon, and terrorist attacks resulted in up to 150 victims nearly every week.

With the arrival of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, this era of terror ended. The President deeply reformed the army, implementing effective strategies, acquiring sophisticated warfare equipment, and intensifying the training of combat forces. Today, terrorists are relentlessly hunted by the Security and Defense Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who perform remarkable work at the risk of their lives. Thanks to these efforts, 191,937 internally displaced persons were able to return to their home villages as of August 31, 2023.

 Diplomacy

Under President Traoré’s directive, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivia Rouamba undertook several actions to strengthen Burkina Faso’s diplomacy with an offensive approach, faithful to the political will of President Ibrahim Traoré to affirm the country’s sovereignty. Notable achievements include the signing of the Liptako-Gourma Charter establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Burkina Faso also diversified its partnerships by strengthening ties with Russia, Iran, North Korea, Turkey, and others, who now supply the country with military equipment. One of the significant actions is the termination of certain colonial agreements with France, thereby affirming Burkina Faso’s sovereignty.

Economy

The transitional authorities have implemented a social entrepreneurship program to revive the economy even in times of crisis. Strategic initiatives launched include:

  • Establishing a tomato processing plant in Bobo-Dioulasso.
  • Creating a mixed-economy company to manufacture military and paramilitary uniforms, thus valuing local cotton.
  • Launching Golden Hand, a mining residue treatment plant.
  • Setting up a gold refinery.

Initiatives like the Presidential Initiative for Community Development and the Presidential Initiative for Agriculture were established, with 14.725 hectares planted for the 2023-2024 wet season campaign, aiming for nearly 190.000 tons of cereals, vegetables, and tubers.

 Health

A series of reforms has been implemented to provide quality and accessible healthcare for all. This includes the construction and modernization of several health centers and significantly reducing medical care costs. Recently, President Traoré handed over fifteen mobile clinics to the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene to bring healthcare closer to the people.

 Infrastructure

Essential infrastructures have been built across the country, including the rehabilitation and construction of roads, schools, and administrative buildings.

 Fight Against Corruption

Aware that corruption hinders development, Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s government has established strict mechanisms to combat this scourge and absenteeism in the public administration, thereby cleaning up the environment.

In a short time, President Ibrahim Traoré has transformed Burkina Faso spectacularly. His achievements in security, diplomacy, economy, health, infrastructure, and the fight against corruption demonstrate his commitment and vision for a prosperous and sovereign Burkina Faso.
