Burkina-Faso: Food sovereignty, a possible challenge for the government
Announced by the Council of Ministers a few days ago, the operational plan for food sovereignty known as the «Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive 2023-2025» in the Republic of Burkina-Faso is about to enter its active phase.
To achieve this, major reforms are planned. These include the establishment of a single fund, the introduction of a quota for the purchase of local products by importers, and the financing of the offensive through the rice development model supported by private promoters.
Achieving food food sovereignty is a priority for the government of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in line with its policy of leading the country towards total sovereignty in all areas. To achieve this, the two-part plan will focus on eight priority sectors: rice, maize, wheat, potatoes, fish, cattle, poultry and mangoes.
The second component involves the creation of at least 100,000 decent jobs in the agro-pastoral sector for young people, internally displaced persons and volunteers for the defence of the homeland (VDP).
The project will cost 592 billion CFA francs and will be implemented through a public-private partnership. The State will finance 46% of the project, with 54% coming from private resources.
