Burkina Faso: Human Rights Watch report/Angry people call on the transition to end diplomatic relations with the United States
In Burkina Faso, unrest is growing within the population following the joint declaration by the United States and the United Kingdom following the false report by Human Rights Watch accusing the Burkinabe army. In protest against this action by the Americans, angry people staged a sit-in in front of the US embassy in Ouagadougou.
Signs held by the demonstrators read, « We, the sovereign people of Burkina Faso, demand that you leave our territory and focus on Gaza and Ukraine ».
This demonstration in support of the transition is proof of the unwavering support of the Burkinabe people behind President Ibrahim Traoré’s government. The demonstration comes after the transition summoned the business manager at the US embassy in Burkina and denounced Washington’s destabilizing attitude.
The protesters echoed the government’s sentiments and accused a conspiracy against Burkina. « This hasty publication, without waiting for the results of the investigation conducted by our country’s independent judiciary, aims to destabilize our revolution, our people, as they usually do », declared the spokesperson for the demonstrators.
Chanting « IB President » the people also called for the permanent suspension of BBC, VOA media, and the permanent closure of the Human Rights Watch website in Burkina Faso.
