Burkina Faso: Imam Cheick Ismael Demé urges the terrorists to lay down their arms

Imam Cheick Ismael Demé, a professor of Islamic wisdom and Western philosophy, has urged those who have taken up arms against Burkina Faso to lay them down as they are on the wrong path.

«I am pleased with the progress of the army and I urge the fighting forces to be united in order to better defend Burkina Faso. I also call on those who have taken up arms against the country to lay them down», appealed Imam Cheick Ismael Demé.

According to him, a holy war is not fought to kill someone, but to defend oneself. « Jihadism is a holy war in Arabic. What they are doing is not a holy war» said Imam Cheick Ismael Demé, stating that it is the military who engage in a holy war.

Therefore, he invited journalists to avoid using the term «jihadists» to describe these terrorists.

« I urge the youth to be patient and the religious authorities to offer blessings so that the government can be on the right path», exhorted the religious leader.

According to this religious figure, it is the duty of his fellowship to bless the youth and the entire society so that peace can prevail in Burkina Faso. “Let all Burkinabes respect each other regardless of their religions,” recommended the Imam.

He added that if God gives power to a wise man to govern, the country will succeed. But if power is in the hands of someone who defends their own interests, everyone will suffer, estimated the Imam.

Cheick Ismael Demé has requested prayers for peace to prevail in Burkina Faso, for poverty to end, and for a good celebration after the war is over.

«This war has been imposed upon us, but with God’s help, we will overcome it through the blessings of believers and the courage of the fighters» he concluded.
