As the 2024 year-end holidays approach, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Police Divisional Commissioner Mahamadou SANA, has raised awareness about the risks of insecurity and criminal activities from malicious individuals. According to the minister, the holiday season is often a time when such individuals take advantage of the festivities to carry out unlawful acts.

The minister has urged the population to adopt “vigilance, discretion, and report any suspicious activity” as key guidelines to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday season. Citizens are particularly advised to stay alert while traveling, avoiding the transportation of large sums of money or valuable items.

Additionally, the Minister encouraged residents to bolster the security of their homes and businesses by installing lights, secure locks, and, if possible, alarm systems. They are also advised not to share information about their absence or travel plans on social media, to make withdrawals during the day at secure locations, and to immediately report any suspicious activity by contacting security forces at 1010 or using their regional emergency numbers.

According to the Ministry of Security’s statement, these simple actions can help prevent tragedies and ensure a peaceful holiday season for everyone. The Ministry emphasized that it is working tirelessly to ensure that the holidays remain a time of peace and safety for all citizens.
