Burkina Faso/Internal Security: Police officers clear the population of suspected criminals

As Security Minister Mahamadou SANA emphasized during his official inauguration on August 6th, the challenge of securing the cities and countryside of Burkina Faso must be met with the cooperation of all collaborators to ensure effective security for the population and their property.

In line with this firm commitment, officers of the national police apprehended two criminals who had been causing unrest and panic among the population in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, and in the city of Ziniaré. According to information from the police station of the 5th district of Ouagadougou, the pair, both in their twenties, are accused of armed robbery and assault.

These individuals specifically targeted money transfer shops and kiosks, as well as women, from whom they snatched purses at the northern and western overpasses of Ouagadougou. According to police sources, from January to June 2024, these individuals committed about ten offenses, making off with several million CFA francs. Upon their arrest following an investigation, several items were seized, including an automatic pistol, magazines and ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, and clothing items.

This operation was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the courageous population in the targeted areas, according to the national police. The police, therefore, call on all citizens of Burkina Faso to contribute and redouble their efforts and vigilance to effectively and efficiently ensure their own security. The police authorities also reminded the public of the operationalization of emergency numbers, such as 17, 16, and 1010, for reporting suspicious activities.
