Burkina Faso/ Japan: Renewal of Food Aid Agreements KR 2023

In its visionary policy for food strengthening in Burkina Faso, the Government of Burkina Faso under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and the Republic of Japan renewed this Thursday, October 19, 2023, their agreements on the food aid of Japan KR for fiscal year 2023, at a ceremony in Ouagadougou, through a food donation.

Indeed, the food donation, valued at 2 billion CFA francs, is a significant contribution to the national policy of food security and nutrition of Burkina Faso. The Japanese Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Masaki Kato, stressed that this donation, mainly consisting of bags of rice, will be divided into two strategic parts.

The first part will be distributed free of charge to internally displaced persons in collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and local NGOs. The second part of the grant will be put on the market to finance development projects, in line with Burkina Faso’s global vision for food security and sustainable growth.

Masaki Kato commended Burkina Faso for its effective management of the Japanese KR and expressed Japan’s commitment to making Burkina Faso a country of food security stability. Japanese technical support aims to increase agricultural productivity, with projects such as improving the nutritional situation through agriculture and the irrigation project to revitalize rice farming.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Olivia Rouamba, stressed the importance of Japanese food aid in achieving national goals of food self-sufficiency. She commended the long and friendly relationship between Burkina Faso and Japan, describing this cooperation as exemplary and expressing Burkina Faso’s gratitude to Japan for its contribution to national resilience.

Note that the renewal of the KR 2023 food aid agreements between Burkina Faso and Japan marks an important step in bilateral cooperation. This ongoing partnership not only helps to relieve people in difficulty, but also strengthens the foundations of sustainable development in Burkina Faso.

The shared vision of food security and economic growth between the two nations continues to thrive through this fruitful collaboration.
