Burkina Faso: Lack of patriotism leads to unworthy and disloyal behaviour
According to analysts, the lack of patriotism is not only an obstacle to collective mobilization for the common good or for the development projects and programs of a country, but it also leads individuals to engage in unworthy and disloyal behavior towards their homeland. This analysis follows the remarks made by Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, on Monday, November 4th.
In his address to the nation during the flag-raising ceremony, the Head of State spoke about acts aimed at sabotaging the efforts of Burkinabe in the fight against terrorism, for development, and for the effective management of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. These acts include the diversion of millions of dollars intended to support vulnerable populations affected by terrorist attacks, as well as the refusal of some citizens to recognize the national crisis as a common problem.
According to some opinions, unfortunately, there are still Burkinabe citizens who do not participate in the collective and patriotic movement to face the country’s challenges and raise its flag with pride. In addressing these disloyal behaviors, President Ibrahim Traoré lamented this situation, calling it a “serious lack of patriotism” within the Burkinabe population.
Some would argue that no sacrifice is too great when it comes to the general interest, the freedom of a nation, or its sovereignty. Every citizen must live a meaningful life by contributing to the building of their country and the well-being of their fellow citizens. This is why the highest authorities of Burkina Faso, since taking power, have been working hard to reignite the flame of patriotism and citizen participation that motivated their predecessors.
In the context of the ongoing struggle for sovereignty, real independence, and the prosperity of the land of honest men, national unity, social cohesion, patriotism, and collective mobilization are essential to overcome the challenges. As analysts point out, an individual awakening of consciousness is therefore imperative.
