Burkina Faso: Major decisions on infrastructure, agriculture and public finance at the January 29 Council of Ministers meeting
The Council of Ministers on Wednesday, January 29, chaired by Captain Ibrahim TraorĂ©, was marked by significant decisions aimed at strengthening infrastructure, agriculture, and public finances in Burkina Faso. Among the key deliberations was the adoption of a report regarding the development of 30 km of urban roads in Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, and Koudougou, as part of the presidential initiative “Faso MĂŞbo”. This project, financed by the National Bureau of Major Projects of Burkina (BN-GPB), aims to modernize the road network to improve traffic flow and the safety of users.
In the agricultural sector, two decrees were adopted to structure and boost the agropastoral and fisheries industries. The first establishes the statutes of the Burkinabe Council of Agropastoral and Fisheries Sectors (CBF) to optimize their management. The second decree approves projects for the acquisition of agricultural inputs and equipment, as well as the development of irrigated areas, within the framework of the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive. These initiatives, totaling 37.2 billion CFA francs, aim to strengthen the resilience of the population and ensure the country’s food sovereignty.
On the financial front, the Council extended the duration of the Patriot Support Fund (FSP) by one year, a key mechanism to mobilize resources in the fight against terrorism and to consolidate peace. Since its creation in 2023, this fund has proven its effectiveness, and its extension is deemed necessary due to current security challenges. Additionally, a decree was adopted to amend certain provisions regulating this fund, ensuring more efficient management tailored to the country’s needs.
These decisions reflect the commitment of the Burkinabe authorities to strengthen infrastructure, support the agricultural sector, and secure financial resources essential for the country’s development and stability. The momentum set by President Ibrahim TraorĂ© underscores a constant dedication to modernizing Burkina Faso and meeting the population’s expectation
