Burkina Faso: Meeting the challenges of 2025, when the Prime Minister urges the primacy to action and ethics
On Monday, January 6, 2025, during the first flag-raising ceremony of the year, Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, urged the staff of the Prime Minister’s office to embrace three essential values: exemplarity, commitment, and urgency. This solemn ceremony, marking the first Monday of the new year, provided an opportunity for the head of government to present his wishes and call for unprecedented mobilization to achieve his ambitions for the country.
In his speech, the Prime Minister expressed a wish for the definitive return of peace to Burkina Faso. He also conveyed his gratitude to the staff, comparing their role to that of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), the defense forces, and the citizen actors he recently met on the frontlines. “You are volunteers for the defense of the homeland on whom I wish to rely to succeed in this heavy but exhilarating mission”, he stated, before recalling the major actions announced during his general policy declaration.
Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo emphasized the need for the staff of the Prime Minister’s office to uphold exemplarity, particularly by strictly adhering to regulations concerning public resource management. “I will tolerate no deviation from the rules of good public financial management”, he warned. He also called for the widespread dissemination of the ethics code adopted in 2023 and the establishment of an institutional committee to regulate dysfunctions.
According to the Prime Minister, commitment must translate into patriotic service without duplicity or compromise. “Patriotic commitment to serve the interests of the country without reserve is the guiding principle of our daily actions”, he stressed.
Finally, he insisted on urgency, urging staff to avoid any delays or blockages in the processing of files. “I want you to embrace the logic of moving quickly and efficiently”, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo concluded, determined to make 2025 a year of positive transformation for Burkina Faso.
