Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré’s government steps up the fight against fraudulent practices that make life expensive
In line with President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision to alleviate the burden of high living costs, the Burkinabe government has intensified its actions to regulate the prices of essential goods. Under the leadership of the Minister of Industrial Development, Trade, Handicrafts, and SMEs, Serge PODA, the Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud Prevention (BMCRF) is waging a relentless fight against unscrupulous traders who refuse to comply with the set regulations.
On Friday, January 17, 2025, the BMCRF conducted a control operation across several neighborhoods in Ouagadougou, in the presence of the press, to ensure that current regulations were being enforced. In the Rayongo neighborhood, shops were closed for failing to comply with price regulations, and expired products were seized. Among the violations noted, SN SOSUCO sugar was being sold for 1000 CFA instead of the regulated price of 800 CFA, while SN Citec Nº2 soap was being offered at 500 CFA instead of 400 CFA.
This initiative, in addition to protecting consumers, demonstrates the government’s determination to establish economic justice. It sends a clear message to dishonest traders that selfish interests will not prevail over the collective well-being. These efforts align with President Ibrahim Traoré’s commitment to building a united and prosperous Burkina Faso, where citizens’ rights are respected.
