Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré’s visionary commitment inspires renewed momentum in the fight against HIV/AIDS
The leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré continues to gain unanimous support, including within the United Nations system, which praises his remarkable efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS. During the 21st ordinary session of the National Council for the Fight against AIDS and STIs (CNLS/IST), chaired by the Director of the President of Faso’s Cabinet, Captain Martha Céleste Anderson Dekomwin Medah, on behalf of the Head of State, it was highlighted that President Ibrahim Traoré’s personal commitment has helped stabilize the HIV prevalence rate at 0.6%. This achievement is attributed to the free provision of treatments and tests, as well as the effective mobilization of national and international actors.
Aissata Guissé Kaspar, the representative of the UN Resident Coordinator, acknowledged that these efforts, carried out despite a complex security and humanitarian context, honor Burkina Faso on both the regional and international stages. She particularly emphasized the impact of government measures to make antiretroviral drugs accessible, a key factor in achieving viral load suppression for more than 53% of patients under treatment.
President Ibrahim Traoré, through his visionary commitment, inspires a renewed momentum in this fight. While recognizing the achievements, the Director of the President of Faso’s Cabinet stressed the urgency of strengthening prevention measures and removing barriers to achieve the “95-95-95” goals by 2030. This synergy of efforts, driven by unwavering political will, reinforces Burkina Faso’s role as a model of resilience and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
