Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, granted an audience to the Higher Council for Communication (CSC) this Tuesday. On this occasion, the CSC delegation, led by its president, Wendingoudi Louis Modeste Ouédraogo, presented the public reports for the years 2022 and 2023. These documents provide an overview of the media and communication landscape in Burkina Faso, while also offering perspectives for the future.

According to Mr. Ouédraogo, the discussions with the Head of State were fruitful and motivating. “We leave with a renewed determination to work for healthy social communication, capable of supporting the development efforts of our country,” he stated. The reports presented highlight a clear improvement in the content of traditional media, while stressing the need to remain vigilant in order to maintain this positive momentum.

The CSC president praised the progress made through preventive actions, including journalist training and awareness campaigns. “Today, the media produce content that respects our national values and promotes our culture. This is a significant step forward,” he expressed. However, he also pointed out the challenges posed by new media, particularly social media, where misinformation remains a serious threat.

“Social media evolves rapidly, and we must anticipate the risks they represent. Misinformation can undermine development efforts and the actions to reclaim our territory,” Mr. Ouédraogo explained. In response to this challenge, the CSC is considering measures to regulate these platforms and raise public awareness of the dangers of misinformation.

During this meeting, the delegation also discussed the perspectives for 2025, particularly the new responsibilities of the CSC, which now includes the regulation of social media. “We informed the President of Faso about our plans to strengthen our role in cleaning up the media space and asserting our sovereignty in the field of communication,” he added.
