Burkina Faso: Raising awareness against hate speech, the Ministry of Security calls for vigilance and national unity

In a statement issued on February 13, 2025, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, issued a stern warning to individuals spreading hate speech on social media and other digital platforms. The Minister emphasized that no tolerance will be shown to those inciting violence, stigmatization, or division within Burkinabe communities.
The statement underlined that these growing hate speeches pose a serious threat to peace and social cohesion. By promoting violence and exacerbating community tensions, these messages undermine collective efforts to combat terrorism and preserve national unity. The Ministry of Security strongly condemned these actions and reminded the public that any incitement to hate, discrimination, or conflict between communities is punishable by law.
The government urged collective vigilance, encouraging the population to reject divisive rhetoric. It also called on citizens to report any suspicious content or behavior via the “Alerte BCLCC” platform at alerte.bclcc.gov.bf or by contacting emergency numbers 10 10, 16, 17, or 199. These measures allow authorities to intervene quickly to prevent any escalation of violence.
In the context of significant security challenges, the statement emphasized that national unity is more critical than ever. Hate speech and calls for violence only weaken the country and jeopardize efforts to ensure security and stability. The Ministry of Security reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the values of peace, tolerance, and solidarity that underpin the Burkinabe nation.
The government invited every citizen to play an active role in preserving social harmony. By refraining from violent rhetoric and reporting reprehensible behavior, Burkinabe people can contribute to strengthening the country’s resilience against internal and external threats. The fight against hate speech is a collective effort that requires everyone’s commitment to safeguard Burkina Faso’s future.
