During the 2024 annual review of the Defense-Security Sectoral Dialogue Framework (CSD-DS), the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, presented an encouraging report on the progress made in the security and defense sector. With a physical execution rate of 94% and a financial execution rate of 75%, Burkina Faso has shown significant improvements compared to 2023, where these rates were 84% and 55%, respectively.

The year 2024 saw an intensification of military operations against terrorist groups threatening the country. Thanks to the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteer Defense Forces (VDP), over 697 localities have been liberated and stabilized, allowing for the gradual return of displaced populations.

This reconquest of national territory is a significant victory for Burkina Faso, demonstrating its determination to restore peace and security in all regions of the country. These results reflect the effectiveness of the military strategies implemented under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré and confirm the growing strength of the Burkinabe armed forces.

The Minister of Security reiterated the government’s firm commitment to continue and intensify efforts in defense and the protection of citizens. The stability of the country is based on a clear vision and concrete actions aimed at ensuring the security of the population and the protection of property.
