Burkina-Faso: Requisition of Dr Arouna Louré. The doctor should «feel proud» according to Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo

At a press conference held in Ouagadougou on Tuesday 12 September, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Communication spoke out on a number of topical issues, including the deployment of Burkina Faso troops in Niger, rumours about the presence of foreign troops on Burkina Faso’s borders, the failure to deliver François Compaoré, and the requisition of Dr Arouna Louré.

According to Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, government spokesman, Burkinabe citizens requisitioned for the fight against terrorism should be proud to play their part in defending their homeland.

«Everything that is currently being done is being done in full compliance with the law and the rules of the Republic. We are in a situation of general mobilisation and warning. This means that any citizen can be called today» explained the note received by Dr Arouna Louré.

The anaesthetist received a note from the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Colonel Moussa Diallo, informing him that he would be going to Koumbri in the North region «to provide his assistance and serve in the unit deployed in Koumbri for the 12th Commando Infantry Regiment (12mRIC) as part of its missions and operations to secure the national territory» the note said.

According to Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, «it must be the natural attitude of every citizen to feel ready to make this contribution to the work of reclaiming the territory. Most of Burkina Faso’s citizens are already doing this. It’s not because a citizen of Burkina Faso doesn’t carry a gun on his forehead. There are many citizens who are committed» said Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

«This provision is such that every citizen must feel ready, if need be, to be able to make this contribution. Beyond the fact that it may seem compulsory, it should be a source of pride for every citizen to be able to stand in the front line» added the minister.

Dr Arouna Louré was a member of parliament under Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba. Since the fall of Damiba, the doctor seems to have had a grudge against the regime of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, towards whom he makes futile and unfounded criticisms. Is this the reason for his requisition? We’ll come back to this…
