In Burkina Faso, alerts continue to be issued to road users, particularly motorbike riders, as a way to significantly reduce the number of road accidents, which have been on the rise for years. In the Bam province, located in the Center-North of Burkina Faso, for example, 57 road accidents were recorded between January 1st and November 30th, 2024.

This was revealed by the Chief Commissioner of the National Police in Bam. Among these accidents, 11 deaths, 62 injuries, and 92 material damages were reported. These alarming figures should raise concerns. In response to this situation, the population is urged to strictly adhere to the traffic code in order to reverse the trend of road accidents, particularly during this year-end period.

According to the Provincial High Commissioner, the majority of accidents are linked to human behavior, although technical failures of vehicles also play a role. He emphasized the importance of wearing helmets and strictly following traffic rules to reduce these incidents. For him, it is essential for two-wheeled vehicle users to make helmet-wearing a part of their daily habits.

As a reminder, the mandatory helmet-wearing law will officially take effect on January 1st, 2025, and measures have been put in place by the authorities to ensure its implementation and strict enforcement through regular checks. This is crucial for the health and safety of both drivers and road users in general.
