The government has called on all citizens to take responsibility regarding the mandatory helmet law for two-wheel vehicle users. As a reminder, since January 2025, control and awareness operations have been organized to make this traffic rule a reality in Burkina Faso.

In response to questions from members of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) about measures to strengthen road safety, the head of government, Mr. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, sounded the alarm about the situation of traffic accidents and urged citizens to be more responsible and respectful of the mandatory helmet law.

For the head of government, “It is pointless to buy an expensive motorcycle for your child if, unfortunately, due to an accident, that child is seriously injured or even dies, which is something we certainly do not wish”. Each person’s role, be it parents, siblings, or relatives, would be to remind their loved ones to wear a helmet when leaving the house.

The aim, it should be remembered, is to minimize the consequences of traffic accidents, such as serious injuries, head trauma, and even death. Other measures taken to strengthen road safety include the creation of mobile control units, strengthening the synergy of actions between control forces, the development and adoption of a national road safety strategy, and intensifying awareness campaigns.
