Burkina Faso/Road Safety: One helmet for every motorcycle or tricycle user

0

The mandatory use of protective helmets for two- or three-wheeled vehicle users is set to become a part of daily life for Burkinabe citizens before the law requiring helmet use comes into effect in January 2025. The country’s authorities are working hard to ensure that citizens adopt this practice, as a measure to reduce the serious consequences of road accidents.

Awareness campaigns are currently being intensified to allow those concerned to comply with the new law before its enforcement. After this grace period, sanctions will be imposed on violators, according to the country’s authorities. Statistics on traffic accidents, whether biannual or annual, show that users of two- or three-wheeled vehicles are the most involved in such incidents.

These individuals often face the most severe consequences of accidents, including fatalities and serious head trauma. To prevent such tragedies, the authorities are implementing appropriate measures aimed at reducing accident risks or, at the very least, minimizing their impact. A widespread commitment to this initiative will not only help protect individuals but also save lives.
