Burkina Faso – Russia: Fight against terrorism, when the two countries seal an operational partnership

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Burkina Faso, Igor Alexandrovitch MARTYNOV, was received by the Minister of Security, Mahamadou SANA. This meeting was part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, with a particular focus on combating terrorism and securing Burkina Faso’s territory.

The discussions primarily addressed the security challenges faced by Burkina Faso, notably the growing threat of violent extremism. Both parties explored ways to enhance their cooperation to better address these challenges. At the end of the talks, an agreement was reached to implement joint projects aimed at improving the operational and technical capabilities of Burkina Faso’s security forces.

These projects include, among others, the training of defense and security forces, intelligence sharing, and the acquisition of specialized equipment to effectively combat terrorist groups. This collaboration is part of a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening Burkina Faso’s resilience against the security threats that undermine regional stability.

The Ministry of Security welcomed this progress, reaffirming its commitment to work with all strategic partners to ensure the safety of the population and the national territory. This cooperation highlights the shared desire of both Burkina Faso and Russia to unite their efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region.
