Burkina Faso – Russia: Strengthening cultural cooperation, an opportunity to showcase the country’s talent and creativity

On Monday, March 17, 2025, the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism, Pingdwendé Gilbert OUÉDRAOGO, received in audience the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Burkina Faso, His Excellency Igor MARTYNOV, in his office. The discussions focused on strengthening cultural cooperation between the two countries, with a particular emphasis on the fields of art, culture, and cinema.
This meeting is part of a rapprochement dynamic between Burkina Faso and Russia, aimed at promoting cultural exchanges and offering new opportunities for Burkinabe artists and professionals. According to Ambassador MARTYNOV, this cooperation will materialize in the coming days with the signing of a bilateral agreement in the field of cinema. This agreement will pave the way for technical collaborations, training programs, and co-productions, thus allowing the talent and creativity of Burkinabe cultural actors to be showcased on the international stage.
For Burkina Faso, this cooperation represents a real opportunity to strengthen its cultural industry, particularly in the film sector, already recognized for its dynamism and originality through events like FESPACO. Burkinabe artists and technicians will benefit from expertise exchanges, specialized training, and access to new markets, while also contributing to the promotion of the country’s cultural richness.
Minister OUÉDRAOGO praised this initiative, emphasizing that “culture is an essential driver of development and rapprochement between peoples”. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting cultural actors and creating an environment conducive to the flourishing of their talents.
This cultural cooperation between Burkina Faso and Russia is therefore set to be a win-win partnership. It will not only strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two nations but also position Burkina Faso as a key player on the international cultural scene, while offering concrete and profitable opportunities to its artists and creators.
