In an effort to improve livestock health and support the agropastoral sector, the Ministry of Animal Resources of Burkina Faso has launched a special vaccination campaign. This initiative is part of the broader agropastoral and fisheries offensive and aims to protect livestock from major animal diseases.

Under this program, certain essential vaccinations, such as those against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), rabies, and anthrax, are fully covered by the state. Other vaccines, including those against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, foot-and-mouth disease, Newcastle disease, and avian pox, receive a subsidy of 50% to 60%, making them more accessible to farmers.

This commitment by President Ibrahim Traoré reflects a strong political will to support farmers and strengthen food security. The program is well received by sector stakeholders, who see it as a major step forward in protecting and improving livestock productivity.

With increased vaccination coverage, the country hopes to significantly reduce losses due to animal diseases, ensuring the sustainable development of the agropastoral sector. This campaign illustrates a comprehensive strategy aimed at modernizing and securing livestock practices in Burkina Faso.
