Burkina Faso: The agropastoral and fisheries offensive, a lever for food sovereignty
On Monday, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TraorĂ©, reaffirmed his vision for food sovereignty during his visit to a pineapple experimental field at Camp Naba-Koom 2. With 60.000 plants arranged on one hectare, this initiative is part of the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive he launched to mobilize all the country’s forces, including the military, in favor of development. For the Head of State, this approach reflects a new mission for the Armed Forces: “The army is not just about weapons. It must participate in the development of our country”.
This project, led by the Commander of the Republican Guard, Battalion Chief Souleymane Zango, is based on specialized training provided by a local farm. The first pineapple harvests are expected in November 2025, marking an important milestone in Burkina Faso’s food empowerment. Additionally, an eight-hectare space has been set up to experiment with strategic crops such as coffee, cocoa, avocado, and cola, demonstrating the ambition to diversify national agricultural production.
Through this Offensive, Captain Ibrahim Traoré once again demonstrates his commitment to sustainably transforming Burkina Faso. By mobilizing the country’s human and natural resources, including military expertise, he is shaping a future where food sovereignty will be a cornerstone of national development.
