Burkina Faso : The consumer league in discussion with President Ibrahim Traoré to defend citizens’ rights

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of the Transition in Burkina Faso, granted an audience this Monday morning to a delegation from the Burkina Faso Consumer League (LCB), led by Dasmané Traoré, its chief executive. This meeting provided an opportunity for the LCB to express admiration for the achievements of the Head of State while raising major concerns regarding consumer rights in the country.

Dasmané Traoré, President of the LCB, expressed his organization’s admiration for the results achieved by the Transitional President, commending his efforts on the ground. However, he emphasized the importance of not neglecting the economic aspect, warning against abuses suffered by consumers, which could undermine their morale.

A crucial point raised during this audience concerns mobile phone operators, where the LCB called on the Head of State to intervene to end abusive practices and extortion against consumers. The organization also advocated for the introduction of a fourth mobile phone operator, hoping that this would strengthen competition and improve service quality for consumers.

Furthermore, the LCB strongly condemned the actions of some vendors who transfer rice into new bags to resell it to consumers, labeling them as « war criminals ». According to the LCB, this fraudulent practice seriously undermines consumer rights and must be severely punished.

During the meeting with the Transitional President, the LCB delegation also raised other important issues, such as the quality of healthcare and pharmaceutical products, as well as artificial shortages of butane gas created by some retailers to the detriment of consumers.

In summary, this audience between the Burkina Faso Consumer League and the Transitional President has shed light on the challenges faced by consumers in the country. The LCB continues to play an essential role in protecting citizens’ rights and calls for concrete actions to improve the quality of life for all, particularly by ensuring respect for their economic and social rights.
