Burkina Faso: The fight against terrorism: FDS and VDP demonstrate their determination with decisive operations
Last week, Burkina Faso’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS), alongside the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), conducted large-scale operations across several regions of Burkina Faso, combining airstrikes and ground offensives.
These operations successfully neutralized numerous terrorists and led to the recovery or destruction of significant weaponry, showcasing the unwavering determination of the Burkinabe armed forces in their fight against terrorism.
On November 25, 2024, the Air Force targeted criminal groups in Barani and Taffogo. These groups, preparing for hostile attacks, were neutralized by precise airstrikes, followed by a ground sweep. A few days later, on November 28, armed groups hiding under trees in Kantchari were detected and eliminated through a combined land and air operation.
On the same day, in the Kosse area, the 25th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) engaged terrorists in an offensive reconnaissance operation. Several attackers were neutralized, and military equipment was seized. Additionally, on November 26, an early morning attack in Bilanga, near Kouri, was swiftly contained thanks to coordinated airstrikes and ground forces, resulting in the capture of enemy equipment.
In another operation, a terrorist ambush targeting a logistical convoy in Arbinda was thwarted through meticulous aerial surveillance. The assailants, caught off guard before their attack, were wiped out, and their equipment destroyed. Further, in the Wambsouya region, an enemy logistics convoy carrying ammunition and fuel was completely destroyed.
In the Boucle du Mouhoun, the VDP of Silmimossi also played a key role by ambushing an armed group on November 24, neutralizing several terrorists and recovering a military arsenal.
