Burkina Faso: The government deploys strategic measures to improve safety and sanitation of water infrastructures

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, the government is implementing a series of concrete measures to strengthen security and improve the management of the country’s water infrastructure. After investing 13 billion FCFA to equip the National Office for Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Development (ONBAH) with state-of-the-art equipment, work has begun to prevent flooding and improve living conditions for the population.
On Friday, March 14, 2025, State Minister Commander Ismaël Sombié officially launched the rehabilitation of the Hérédougou bridge, a strategic project that fits into a broader vision of sustainable development and optimal water resource management. This project marks a crucial step in the sanitation and development of the country’s water infrastructure.
During his speech, Minister Sombié made a strong appeal to local populations to fully engage in the project. He particularly emphasized the importance of building water retention systems to support vegetable farming and ensure better water resource management. Aware of the challenges, he urged the ONBAH teams to adhere strictly to the three-month deadline for the completion of the work, stressing the need for rapid and efficient execution of the project.
Concerned with the proper management of public funds and acquired equipment, the minister warned against any misconduct in the implementation of the project. He insisted on the rigorous and responsible use of the equipment, reminding everyone that any illegal practice would be severely punished. With this initiative, the government reaffirms its commitment to sustainably improving water infrastructure and ensuring the safety of the population in the face of flood risks.
