Burkina Faso:  The message of Peace from H.E. Madam Olivia Rouamba to the youth

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad, Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA, patron of the International Forum of African Youth in Ouagadougou, FIJAO 2023, invited African youth on Saturday, May 20, 2023, to be ambassadors of peace across the continent.

From the podium, Her Excellency Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA stated that the growing inequalities resulting from poor governance and abuse of power have had particular impacts on the youth.

Faced with this situation, young people have the opportunity to mobilize and engage directly in addressing the challenges.

«Despite the limited involvement of young people in decision-making, there are still opportunities for them to make their voices heard in order to guide change and support decision-makers», emphasized Her Excellency Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA before the gathering of youth from all corners of the continent.

According to statistics, Africa remains the youngest continent in the world with a median age of 19. By 2050, one in three young people will live in sub-Saharan Africa.

This situation requires concerted actions and reflections, added the Burkinabe Foreign Minister, who believes that the outcomes of this meeting in Ouagadougou will contribute to the effort of preventing crises. She called on young people to be ambassadors of peace.

Under the theme «Peace and Security in the Sahel: Youth at the forefront», FIJAO 2023 was held under the auspices of the Head of State, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, represented by his Chief of Staff.
