Burkina Faso: The results of the Rome-Ouagadougou partnership under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré

On Tuesday 5 September 2023, President Ibrahim Traoré granted an audience to the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Burkina Faso, Andréa Romussi. During the meeting, the Italian ambassador gave a positive assessment of the cooperation between the two countries, underlining the importance of these relations, which date back more than seventy years.
According to information reported by the Direction de la Communication de la Présidence du Faso, Mr Andréa Romussi is coming to the end of his mission in Ouagadougou. «This is a farewell visit to His Excellency the President of the Transition. I took the opportunity to review bilateral relations between Italy and Burkina Faso, which date back over seventy years» said the Italian ambassador.
Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, relations between Burkina Faso and Italy have been diversified in key areas such as agriculture, health, women’s empowerment, support for young people and the well-being of people living with disabilities. This diversification testifies to his holistic vision for his country’s development. President Ibrahim Traoré has always worked to consolidate his country’s diplomatic relations. This expertise has always demonstrated his ability to strengthen international ties and foster international cooperation to achieve his goals for Burkina Faso.
According to the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Burkina Faso, traditional cooperation between Ouagadougou and Rome involves substantial sums (thirty-five million euros per year) managed in partnership with United Nations agencies. President Ibrahim Traoré’s ability to manage these resources successfully testifies to his commitment to carrying out concrete development projects for Burkina Faso.
It is also important to note that, since 30 September 2022, President Ibrahim Traoré has demonstrated exceptional leadership in diversifying Burkina Faso’s international partnerships, which has had a positive impact on the country’s development and security.
