Burkina Faso: The sovereignty advocated by President Ibrahim Traoré welcomed and supported by the United States
The sovereignty policy of President Ibrahim Traoré continues to receive international support, particularly from the United States. During a meeting with Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, the U.S. Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Joann Lockard, reaffirmed her country’s commitment to collaborating with the Burkinabe government. She emphasized that the common goal is to build a “strong, independent, and stable” Burkina Faso, in line with President Ibrahim Traoré’s sovereignist vision.
The U.S. Ambassador stated that the United States wishes to support the Burkinabe people in their quest for independence and long-term stability. “We have been working to support the Burkinabe people for years, and we will continue this effort”, she said. These remarks reflect explicit recognition of the direction taken by Burkina Faso, while signaling the United States’ intent to work jointly with the current authorities.
This support reflects an evolution in bilateral relations, with a focus on cooperation that respects Burkina Faso’s sovereignist aspirations. It also strengthens the country’s image as an independent and determined actor on the international stage.
