Burkina Faso / Under the presidency of Ibrahim Traoré: Dynamic diplomacy for a prosperous future

Under President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision, Burkina Faso is continuing its policy of diversifying its international partners, prioritizing win-win partnerships for the country’s development. This bold approach was recently demonstrated during diplomatic meetings between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad, Her Excellency Olivia Rouamba, and her counterparts from the United Arab Emirates and Kosovo.

The meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zahed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, highlighted the strengthening of cooperation between Ouagadougou and Abu Dhabi. Discussions also touched upon the situation in Niger and West Africa, marked by the creation of the Sahel Countries Alliance. This regional initiative aims to promote stability and development in the region.

Regarding bilateral cooperation between Burkina Faso and the United Arab Emirates, significant projects and programs were reviewed, emphasizing their mutual commitment to sustainable development. Burkina Faso has also been invited to participate in the upcoming COP 28 climate conference, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi by the end of 2023, underscoring the importance placed on combating climate change.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Her Excellency Ms. Donika Gervalla SCHWARZ, also expressed strong interest in Burkina Faso. Both parties agreed to establish a framework for consultation to strengthen this budding relationship. Kosovo announced its intention to offer scholarships to Burkinabé students in the field of engineering, opening up new opportunities for education and collaboration between the two countries. Furthermore, the strengthening of cooperation between diplomatic institutes was agreed upon, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise.

These recent diplomatic meetings reflect Burkina Faso’s commitment to diversifying its international partners to promote sustainable and balanced development in the country. This new diplomatic vision, focused on win-win partnerships, paves the way for promising opportunities for Burkina Faso in the fields of economic cooperation, education, and regional diplomacy.
