Burkina Faso: Validation of AES membership, a strong consensus for enhanced regional cooperation
The Transitional Legislative Assembly has approved the bill authorizing the ratification of the Liptako-Gourma Charter, establishing the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). After an in-depth general debate, the parliamentarians unanimously adopted the bill with 71 votes out of 71, demonstrating a strong consensus on this crucial issue.
The parliamentary session that confirmed Burkina Faso’s accession to the AES also addressed several related topics, including the legal status of the Alliance, the structure of its organs, its mode of operation, its competencies, its financing, and the potential membership of other countries in the region.
The Liptako-Gourma Charter, signed between Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso on September 16, 2023, was the starting point of this initiative. Last May, the three countries began discussions on a draft text governing the creation of the AES Confederation, marking a significant step towards enhanced cooperation within the Sahel region.
It is essential for Burkinabé citizens to provide unwavering support to Captain Ibrahim Traoré in fulfilling his missions for the well-being of all. As a leader, Captain Traoré embodies hope and determination to build a better future for the nation.
