Cameroon/Football : José Peseiro would demand a fortune as salary to coach the Indomitable Lions

Following his brilliant career highlighted by the impressive performance of the Nigerian national team at the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Ivory Coast 2023), Portuguese coach José Peseiro has become the target of African football federations.

Among these countries wishing to have the Super Eagles coach on the sidelines is Cameroon. According to several Cameroonian media outlets, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has entered into negotiations with José Peseiro.

The latter seems interested in leading the Indomitable Lions, replacing Rigobert Song, who recently resigned. But before the discussions can conclude, agreement must be reached on the salary that Mr. Peseiro should receive. This is actually the most important clause in the discussions, and it is precisely on this clause that the negotiations are currently stuck.

According to local press reports, the Portuguese coach is demanding a salary three times higher than what Rigobert Song was earning.

José Peseiro is reportedly asking for a monthly salary of $100.000, approximately 60 million FCFA per month, as reported by Actu Cameroon.

To meet Peseiro’s demands, FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o is reportedly in discussions with the Cameroonian government.

It is worth noting that the Cameroonian football governing body has until the end of March to find a new coach for the national team.

As a reminder, José Peseiro is leaving Nigeria due to a lack of financial agreement with the Nigerian Football Federation for his extension after the 2023 CAN. The Portuguese coach was demanding a salary of around $120.000, while the federation was offering him approximately $80.000.
