Cameroon : Samuel Eto’o outlines plan to turn around national team

Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), unveiled one of his ideas to strengthen the Cameroon national team during an interview on the French channel France 24 last week.

Cameroon, eliminated early in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations organized by Ivory Coast, aims to come back stronger. To achieve this, Samuel Eto’o, president of the governing body of Cameroonian football, shares his initiatives, one of which concerns dual-nationality players.

The former striker of the Indomitable Lions intends to utilize dual-nationality players to reinforce the national team’s performances. He has already discussed the idea with some players, whom he refuses to name.

« We are reaching out to many players. But to protect all these players, I will not mention their names », stated Samuel Eto’o.

Among these dual-nationality players who could join Cameroon is Ethan, the brother of French striker Kylian Mbappé.

Ethan and Kylian were born to a Cameroonian father. Kylian chose to play for France, and Ethan Mbappé currently plays for PSG and the French U17 team.

However, it is possible that Ethan will respond to Cameroon’s call and pursue a different path from that of his brother.

During his interview, Samuel Eto’o appreciated the talent of young Mbappé. « They say he is very good », he hinted while refraining from mentioning the steps taken to recruit him.

Cameroon’s efforts to strengthen its squad do not stop only at recruiting dual-nationality players, emphasized the former FC Barcelona and AC Milan player.

« More than just trying to recruit dual-nationality players, we continue to work to make our league attractive to have local players who deserve to play for our national team », he affirmed.
