CAN 2024: Mozambique-Ghana (2-2)
Mozambique and Ghana ended in a draw (2-2), snatched in injury time by the Mambas on January 22 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan. In a very precarious position after this result, the Black Stars are almost certain to not make it to the round of 16.
Dominated by Cape Verde (0-3), who had already qualified for the knockout stage after the second day, Mozambique faced Ghana in their last match of the group stage in Group B of the 2024 AFCON.
The Black Stars, already in a difficult position before this third day with an opening defeat and a draw against Egypt (2-2), were held to a late draw by the Mambas (2-2) when their victory seemed assured. They finish this group stage in 3rd place in Group B and are very close to being eliminated from the competition.
Ghana has failed to automatically qualify from the group stage in the last two AFCON tournaments, and they can only blame themselves for the way they concluded this game.
The draw sees them finish the group with just two points after three matches, one point behind Egypt, who finished second with three points after also drawing 2-2 with Cape Verde.
The island nation, Cape Verde, tops the group with seven points, while Mozambique sits at the bottom with two points.
Their hope of making it to the next round as one of the four best third-placed teams is slim, and they will need results from other matches to favor them.
