CAN 2024: Senegal shows Cameroon who is the champion and secures its place in 8th
From our Special Envoy in Yamoussoukro – Senegal qualified for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations on Friday by defeating Cameroon 3-1. A second win in as many matches puts them ahead of Group C and gives them a guaranteed place in the round of 16 final.
Two games, two wins. Senegal continues its march towards its dream of retaining its African crown. The Lions de la Teranga took the lead of Cameroon in the clash of Group C on Friday, January 19, to validate their ticket to the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations.
It was the most anticipated match of the group stage. Destiny had placed Senegal, champion of Africa in the same group as Cameroon and its five coronations. At the press conference, Cameroon striker Georges-Kevin Nkoudou recalled his country’s history: « It is true that Senegal is the favourite of the competition, but as I always say, we must never bury Cameroon, we remain a great team and a great nation », he said.
