Cape Verde/ECOWAS: Off-grid electricity and renewable energy issues at the heart of a regional meeting
It was held from 12 to 13 October 2023, in Praia a city of Cape Verde, the 8th edition of the ECOWAS Forum on Renewable Energy, marked by the launch of the Regional Project for Access to Off-Grid Electricity (ROGEAP).
The meeting was organized by the ECOWAS Commission supported by its partners, as part of the West Africa Energy Transition Week 2023, which takes place from 9 to 14 October.
It brought together government representatives, international organizations, private sector leaders, academia, civil society and innovators, who have engaged in fruitful discussions and shared their expertise on the pressing energy challenges facing the region.
The 2023 edition of this Forum is placed under the theme «Strengthening Sustainable Energy in the ECOWAS region». It was a question for stakeholders to discuss and collaborate, in order to promote sustainable energy solutions, which meet the unique challenges and opportunities of the West African region.
The regional off-grid electricity access project (ROGEAP) launched during this meeting, aims to increase, according to information, access to sustainable electricity services in the fifteen member countries of ECOWAS and four other countries, namely Cameroon, Chad, Mauritania and the Central African Republic.
The project involves households, businesses, and in some countries includes public health and education facilities as part of a pilot programme.
