Chad: Soon a risk premium for the Ground Armed Forces

The Chadian Armed Forces will receive a risk allowance starting at the end of this month, as announced by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces on Monday, January 29, 2024.

As part of the « revitalization and improvement of living conditions », they will now receive a risk allowance, similar to the special forces that have been benefiting from it for a long time. This measure aims to satisfy all uniformed personnel, according to the army’s communication services.

Chadian soldiers had already received an increase a year ago, just after the adoption of a new general statute for military personnel in defense and security forces. This law modernized their status, including promotions, retirement arrangements, and setting the same salary for equivalent ranks. This increased the salary for a soldier in the lowest rank (2nd class 1st echelon) from 45.000 to 72.250 CFA francs, equivalent to 115 euros.

This time, the measure concerns only members of the army, specified the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General Abakar Abdelkerim Daoud. These military personnel will start receiving a risk allowance in addition to their salary, a benefit that the Chadian special forces, such as the DGSSIE (a kind of presidential guard) or the Division of Special Anti-Terrorist Groupments, have been receiving for years, as communicated by the army.

A soldier in the lowest rank (2nd class 1st echelon) will now pocket the handsome sum of 127.500 CFA francs, nearly 200 euros, starting from the end of this month, which is almost triple the salary they received just over a year ago. This measure also applies to army generals, benefiting approximately 30% of Chadian military personnel.
