Champions League/ ARSENAL – LENS: 6-0
RC Lens was overwhelmed by events on Wednesday at the Emirates. Swept aside 6-0 by Arsenal, whose merit must be acknowledged, they have been eliminated from the Champions League.
They were unrecognizable due to their lack of aggressiveness, and most of the key players contributed to this. The way they sank as early as the first half (5-0) virtually extinguished any hope for a comeback in the second period. Here are our highs and lows.
6-0. The thrashing is memorable, and first and foremost, it’s Lens’ inadequacy that one feels inclined to highlight. However, that would mean overlooking the superb performance delivered by the Gunners, especially during the first 45 minutes this Wednesday at the Emirates (5-0 at halftime).
Six goals scored by six different players, with chilling efficiency and striking technical accuracy. The pure strike by Martin Odegaard, the skillful move by Gabriel Jesus, the almost too brilliant assist by Takehiro Tomiyasu (see more below): the world of difference between the two teams is also due to the excellence of the Premier League leaders.
