Côte d’Ivoire: Continuous growth in gold production
In 2023, Côte d’Ivoire saw its gold production increase by 6% to reach 51 tonnes, further solidifying its status as a major producer in West Africa. This achievement is largely attributed to the opening of Endeavour’s second gold mine in the country, which has become a key element of the government’s strategy to sustain and amplify this growth momentum in the coming years.
The new Endeavour gold mine, inaugurated on June 28, 2023, is expected to produce approximately 203,000 ounces annually over a 13-year period. This mine not only strengthens Côte d’Ivoire’s position as an important player in the gold industry but also cements Endeavour’s status as the leading gold producer in West Africa.
While the growth in gold production is promising, it comes with its share of challenges. The government must ensure the sustainable management of natural resources and minimize environmental impacts. Additionally, it is crucial to ensure that the benefits of this economic growth are equitably distributed among the population.
Côte d’Ivoire is on an upward trajectory in terms of gold production, thanks in part to the new Endeavour mine. This development not only boosts the national economy but also positions the country as a leader in the West African gold sector. With appropriate strategies to manage challenges and maximize opportunities, Côte d’Ivoire can look forward to a prosperous future in the mining industry.
