Dak’Art: Dakar, a global showcase for contemporary african art
Since November 7, Dakar has transformed into the capital of contemporary African art with the Dak’Art Biennale. This major event, held every two years, attracts an international audience of art professionals, artists, and collectors. The biennale has become a true stepping stone for African artists, offering a global platform for visibility and celebrating African creativity.
A Stepping Stone for Senegalese Artists
For local artists, Dak’Art is much more than just an exhibition; it is a unique opportunity for international recognition. Alioune Diagne, a young Senegalese painter, explains how the biennale marked a turning point in his career: “In 2022, I was selected, and it opened many doors for me. That’s when I really launched myself onto the international scene,” he says. Many other artists, such as Semedo, are also given the chance to shine. Semedo, known for his captivating inverted portraits, has caught the attention of art lovers. Yet, despite his growing success, he remains grounded: “I make many sacrifices, but I believe it will pay off in the end,” he notes, confident in the future.
An Event with Global Reach
Founded in 1992, the Dak’Art Biennale has become a key event in contemporary African art. It attracts artists, curators, critics, and collectors from all over the world, solidifying Dakar’s position as the global capital of contemporary African art. This event continues to boost the visibility of African art, fostering fruitful cultural exchanges and opening new horizons for emerging artists.
