DRC: H.E. Judith Suminwa submits her governance project, featuring an ambitious $93 billion program

Her Excellency Judith Suminwa, appointed Prime Minister in early April 2024, presented her governance project to the National Assembly after a week of extensive negotiations within the majority. This submission marks a crucial step in establishing her investiture program, which will be subjected to a vote of confidence by Félix Tshisekedi’s Sacred Union next week.

Madame Judith Suminwa’s governance project is distinguished by its ambitions and clearly defined priorities. A major component of the program is dedicated to security and the fight against corruption, commitments that involve substantial expenditures. Indeed, the total cost of the actions planned by the government amounts to nearly 93 billion dollars (approximately 86 billion euros) over a five-year period.

This program now needs to be approved by the national deputies, a decisive step for the implementation of the envisaged reforms. The vote of confidence scheduled for next week will not only be a test of cohesion for the Sacred Union but also an indication of the government’s ability to mobilize broad support and implement the necessary changes for the country’s development.

The presentation of this governance project is a bold declaration of intent from Judith Suminwa, who must now convince legislators of the viability and positive impact of her proposals. If adopted, this program could mark the beginning of a new era of socio-economic transformation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
