The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces (FARDC) and the National Police of Congo (PNC), called for a crisis meeting on Monday. The meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Defense, aimed to assess the concerning security and humanitarian situation in the North Kivu province, particularly in the vicinity of Goma.

The city of Goma, regularly caught in the grip of armed conflicts, remains at the heart of the region’s security issues. The movement of displaced populations, human rights violations, and incursions by armed groups continue to exacerbate a humanitarian crisis that requires urgent and coordinated responses.

During the meeting, President Félix Tshisekedi stressed the need to intensify efforts to secure the region, while protecting civilians affected by the violence. He also urged the FARDC to strengthen their presence on the ground, strategically targeting the positions of armed groups threatening the region’s stability.

This meeting is part of the initiatives taken by the Congolese government to address the complex challenges facing North Kivu. It also marks President Tshisekedi’s determination to rigorously coordinate national efforts in collaboration with local authorities and international partners.

As tensions persist in the region, President Tshisekedi’s leadership is being tested. However, his commitment to restoring peace and security reflects his dedication to ensuring the sovereignty of the DRC and the protection of its people.
