DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi reaffirms his commitment to modernization through state-of-the-art infrastructure
President Félix Tshisekedi reaffirms his commitment to modernizing the Democratic Republic of the Congo by developing infrastructure to international standards. Following his tour in the Tshopo province, he inaugurated the passenger terminal and aeronautical runways at Kisangani/Bangoka International Airport.
Thanks to government funding and support from the African Development Bank (ADB), the renovations have enhanced the runway and tarmac, improving safety and capacity to accommodate large aircraft such as the Boeing 767.
This modernization includes a fully renovated terminal equipped with modern security features like screening gates and metal detectors, enabling it to handle a flow of up to 300 passengers. The 3.500-meter runway has been resurfaced and widened, allowing for the simultaneous landing and takeoff of up to ten aircraft, significantly improving the operational capacity of this international airport.
According to Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Jean-Pierre Bemba, this inauguration reflects President Félix Tshisekedi’s determination to provide the DRC with essential infrastructure for the country’s socio-economic development. The Bangoka airport is just the beginning, with renovation plans for other airports like Kavumu and N’djili, contributing to a modern transportation network.
The Director General of the Congolese Civil Aviation Authority praised the President’s vision for aviation safety and infrastructure development. By introducing new equipment and ensuring a continuous power supply, this airport exemplifies the commitment to sustainably transform air transport in the DRC, addressing the growing needs for mobility and connectivity in the country.
