DRC / Security and economy: President Félix Tshisekedi and Vital Kamerhe define strategies for the country
On Wednesday, President Félix Tshisekedi met with the President of the Lower House of Parliament, Vital Kamerhe, to discuss major security and economic challenges. In response to the ongoing security crisis in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the two leaders agreed to establish regular assessments of the situation on the ground.
The Head of State has mobilized substantial resources to bolster security by recruiting and training new personnel, while also providing them with modern equipment to address current military challenges.
Regarding the management of resources allocated to the army, Vital Kamerhe emphasized the importance of ensuring total transparency in the food supply chain. This measure aims to address frequent complaints from soldiers about the quality and availability of provisions, reflecting President Tshisekedi’s commitment to rigorous and effective management of military resources.
On the economic front, the depreciation of the Congolese franc against foreign currencies was a central point of discussion. Kamerhe advocated for the urgent implementation of a program to transform and diversify the national economy, stressing the need for continuous monitoring to counter the effects of devaluation and stimulate economic growth.
This meeting underscores President Félix Tshisekedi and his administration’s determination to proactively and transparently address security and economic challenges by implementing concrete measures to improve security and stabilize the country’s economy.
