DRC: The Higher Defense Council is enlarged to strengthen FARDC capabilities
On Wednesday, at the African Union City, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces (FARDC) and the Congolese National Police (PNC), chaired an important expanded meeting of the Higher Defense Council. This strategic meeting allowed for a review of the security situation across the entire country, with a particular focus on the eastern region, which has been plagued by ongoing conflicts.
The meeting brought together Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, senior officers from the military, the PNC, and heads of security services. One of the highlights of this session was the first official intervention of the new Chief of Staff, Jules Banza Mwilambwe. He took the opportunity to outline the main aspects of his vision, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the FARDC in response to current security challenges.
Mr. Jules Banza Mwilambwe emphasized the importance of enhancing the operational capabilities of the FARDC, particularly through better coordination of forces, modernization of equipment, and improved conditions for soldiers. He also stressed the need to intensify efforts to secure the eastern part of the country, where populations have suffered for years at the hands of armed groups.
The participation of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa in this meeting reflects the government’s commitment to working in synergy with defense and security forces to restore peace and stability. The discussions helped to identify clear priorities, including strengthening strategic bases in sensitive areas and accelerating reforms within the military.
