The Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) convened this Thursday for an extraordinary virtual summit dedicated to the security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This high-level meeting aims to intensify regional efforts toward a sustainable resolution of the crisis.

During the summit, Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi praised Angola’s commitment, highlighting the crucial role it plays in seeking a peaceful solution to the conflicts destabilizing the eastern part of the country. He emphasized the need to quickly translate the decisions made into concrete actions on the ground to alleviate the suffering of populations affected by insecurity.

The security situation in the DRC remains a major concern for the region, with armed groups continuing to threaten peace and stability. Through this summit, SADC demonstrates its determination to strengthen military and diplomatic support to eliminate these threats and restore the authority of the Congolese state over its entire territory.

This summit marks a key step in regional cooperation, showcasing the collective commitment of Southern African nations to work for lasting peace in the DRC. The involvement of strong partners such as Angola offers hope for significant improvements in security and development in the region.

The challenge now lies in the effective implementation of the resolutions taken. The Congolese people are waiting for concrete and swift actions to restore peace, which is essential for the reconstruction and development of the DRC.
